Demarcation studs are individual architectural markers used to define boundaries, routes and designated areas across hard-landscaped surfaces. Installed in lines or patterns, they provide a permanent but unobtrusive way to mark outdoor dining areas, queuing zones, paths, parking bays and property boundaries. Learn more about what demarcation studs are and how they are used.

Our demarcation stud range includes flush-fit visibility studs, low-dome profiles, anti-slip surfaces and plain-top designs in diameters from 25mm to 90mm. The appropriate size, profile, material and finish will depend on the location, surrounding surface, required visibility and expected pedestrian or vehicle traffic. Our guide to choosing the right demarcation stud explains these considerations in more detail.

Although demarcation studs and tactile studs can look similar, they are not necessarily intended to perform the same function. Demarcation studs identify or separate areas, while tactile studs are generally installed in recognised patterns to provide warning or directional information to blind and visually impaired pedestrians. See our comparison of demarcation studs and tactile studs for further guidance.

Most pin-fixed demarcation studs are installed into stone, concrete or paving using a drill-and-resin method. The appropriate fixing should always be selected around the substrate, intended load and whether the installation needs to be permanent. Our demarcation stud installation video demonstrates the typical process, while our guide to using epoxy resin to install architectural studs provides detailed installation instructions.

Where a standard product cannot meet the required dimensions, appearance, finish or fixing arrangement, Studmarc can also develop a purpose-made solution. Find out when a bespoke architectural stud may be required.

Sizes from 25mm to 90mm

Choose smaller studs for discreet boundaries or larger diameters for more prominent demarcation and engraved details.

Flush and raised profiles

Flush-fit studs suit areas crossed by furniture or wheeled traffic, while low-dome profiles create a more detectable boundary.

Stainless steel or brass

Select corrosion-resistant 316L stainless steel or brass to complement the surrounding paving, architecture and required visual contrast.

Plain and anti-slip surfaces

Plain-top designs provide a clean architectural finish, while textured profiles make the stud more visually and physically distinct.

Fixings for different surfaces

Pin-fixed studs can be installed into stone, concrete and paving using the drill-and-resin method, with alternative fixings available for suitable applications.

Engraved and bespoke options

Larger studs can accommodate wording, symbols or logos, while bespoke sizes, profiles, finishes and fixings can be developed for individual projects.

Demarcation studs designed around your project

Where a standard demarcation stud cannot meet a project’s dimensional, aesthetic, material, fixing or performance requirements, Studmarc can develop a bespoke solution.

Custom sizes, profiles, finishes, fixings and engraved details can be produced to complement the surrounding paving and wider architectural design while meeting the practical requirements of the installation.
