Can I install tactile studs on porcelain or ceramic tiles?

As a rule, we don’t recommend installing tactile studs or strips with a fixing pin on porcelain or ceramic tiles. The reasons for it are that the likelihood of cracking or damaging the tile when drilling through it is quite high, even with a diamond/carbide tipped drill bit, and as the epoxy resin expands it can put pressure on the tile from underneath and cause it to crack or become unseated.

What other options are there?

If you’re looking to install studs or strips on an indoor porcelain/ceramic tile floor, we recommend using self-adhesive indicators. They’re easily applied and there’s no risk of causing any damage to the underlying surface. They can also be removed relatively easily using a heat source, and the leftover residue can be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.
