Porthcawl Seafront
Anti-Skate
Project Overview
As part of an ongoing project Knights Brown were approached to add a skate deterrent system to the seafront at Porthcawl. The main goal was to prevent skaters from grinding along the newly installed stonework and causing it to degrade and become unstable over time. The anti-skate solution also needed to refrain from preventing pedestrians from resting or sitting on the steps and planter walls. An additional complication was that the wall edge radius was an uncommon one and required a custom fabrication that few companies in the UK could offer. Knights brown approached Studmarc for their assistance in supplying an anti-skate stud that could perfectly match the wall ledge radius.
A bespoke variation of the Lozenge Anti-Skate Stud was selected for in 316L Stainless Steel. 316L Stainless Steel was chosen due to the locations proximity to the sea and the rust and corrosion-proof qualities that 316L stainless offers.
Installation
The custom Lozenge anti-skate studs were installed along the wall ledges with the inner radius of the stud making complete contact with the wall. The installation used the drill and epoxy resin method of installation for a lifetime bond.
