Project Overview
The Station Hill development had been a long time in the works with multiple stages in planning and proposals. It’s one of the largest redevelopment projects in the UK to date with a GDV exceeding £750 million.
It’s a space designed to integrate both family and business culture, creating a harmonising town square approach to modern life. Station hill offers locally focused lifestyle and food options in a convenient, walkable and well-connected space.
The site development has currently completed 2 of its 3 planned phases.
Requirements
PP Construction approached Studmarc with their client’s requirement to protect the newly installed planters, seating units and walls from any anti-social behaviour, or grinding that occurs as a result of skaters in the area. They cited concerns over maintaining the infrastructure with a long-term solution whilst also ensuring the health and safety of all users that enter the location.
Product Solutions
The products chosen to suit the intended application were Studmarc’s 4mm Torpedo Anti-Skate Studs as well as a bespoke design Anti-Skate Blade. PP Construction and LDA Design recognised the need to accurately match the radius of the coping on the walls to the Anti-Skate device to achieve a flawless result.

The design takes into account the lines of the coping, perfectly mimicking the composition to ensure a low profile anti-skate deterrent while posing no danger to pedestrians. They are installed the entire length of the walls on either side of the steps preventing grinding by skaters and BMX riders, preserving the integrity and finish of the structures.
Challenges
As the contractor responsible, PP Construction faced tight deadlines and a rigid schedule on site, and this allocated a brief window of time in which the solution could be sourced and installed. To achieve this Studmarc shortened lead times through maintaining quick and efficient communications throughout the initial design phase while simultaneously preparing production to ensure a quick turnaround.
All these efforts resulted in a timely, cohesive, and aesthetically pleasing finish that will protect the Station Hill public hub for many years to come.
